First Baby Care

Even if the mother feels insecure and a bit tired after delivery, she fit the first baby care, a relationship of affection, kindness and respect for the child.
Navel Seven to fifteen days after the birth of the baby, the "stump" umbilical dry and falls spontaneously. It is important to keep it clean, applying twice a day, merthiolate colorless or 70% alcohol. The mother should use a cotton swab, and after the fall, continue maintaining the hygiene of the place. Merthiolate colored mercury or chromium are inadvisable. Slight bleeding is normal.
Note: Nowadays, there are diapers for the baby's first days, with a hole at the navel, not to compress it. Bandages and bands of "time of Grandma" is absolutely inadvisable.
Nose Occasional sneezing should not grieve her mother, as is normal in newborns. Where she realize that the baby's little nose is clogged, use saline solution at room temperature, if possible, without preservatives. Should drop the contents of a dropper (+ or - 1ml) into each nostril. It is recommended to have the product, always at home, because common decongestants are dangerous for the baby.
Bathing The bath is a special time that requires care and delicacy, because the contact with water, even though the temperature is adequate, is always a surprise for the baby and this can cause you insecurity.

Recommendations to the mother:

  1. Prepare the bath area. Provide, in advance, soap, soft towel and clean clothes.
  2. The infant bathtub should be well cleaned and the water temperature, pleasant to the touch (about 34 degrees).
  3. To test the water temperature, dive, her, his left elbow.
  4. Wrap your baby in a towel and sit near the bathtub, so that the baby's head rests on it.
  5. Wash first, the face (without soap) and then his head.
  6. Unwrap the baby and place it gently in the water. Your left arm should serve to support the head, so leave your hands free to hold firmly the little arm.
  7. Use your right hand to wash the child.
  8. By removing the baby from the water, wrap it in a soft towel.
  9. Arrange to have the changer stand near the site of the bath, so that the child does not take air currents.
  10. Dry carefully the folds and the navel. Do not use talc. Consult your pediatrician in case of diaper rash.
  11. Dress your baby clothes with soft, loose and comfortable.
